CPR and AED Community
Outreach Program
Objectives:
- Provide CPR and AED instructions to everyone in your
squad's first-due area.
- An AED in every church in the first-due area.
- An AED in every business, public building and other
volunteer offices in the first-due area..
Plan Overview:
A phased approach is used to reach the objectives. First phase
focuses on churches. Second phase will focus on public and
private organizations.
Plan Details:
Phase 1 - Churches
Churches in first-due area are contacted and a plan presented
for providing free CPR and AED instructions to their membership.
The plan utilizes the American Heart Association (AHA) just
released Family
& Friends CPR Anytime kit which contains everything
needed to learn CPR in about 30 minutes. Your squad purchased
five (5) kits as part of EMS Week and these are being used
in the training sessions. Attendees are encouraged to purchase
their own kit ($29.95) and pass it on to friends and family
members so squad efforts can be leveraged.
The Initial
Life Support Foundation (ILSF) makes low-cost AEDs available
to churches and houses of worship. Zoll
is a major supporter of this foundation and their Zoll
AED Plus is offered at a cost of only $995. ILSF membership
is required to receive the discounted prices and Botetourt
County Emergency Services (BCES) has the required membership
in ILSF. Each church is encouraged to purchase one of these
AED's and keep it available in the church at all times for
use by their members and neighbors.
Your squad has several certified AHA CPR/AED instructors.
They have instructor training material for instructing and
assisting with learning CPR/AED using the Friends & Family
CPR/AED Anytime kit. Other squad members certified in CPR
and AED assist with the instructions.
Your squad purchased a Zoll
AED Plus Trainer for use in these and other CPR/AED classes.
Two Zoll AED Plus Trainers owned by BCES are also available.
Batteries for the Trainers will be purchased by your squad
as needed.
Efforts will be made to obtain partial grants to help churches
defray some of the $995 cost of an AED.
Phase 2 - Businesses, public buildings and volunteer offices
Make contact with those organizations in the squad's first-due
area and present a plan for providing free CPR and AED instructions
focused on that organization's needs. BCES has already assisted
with placing two Zoll AED Plus units in Gala Industries.
